Demian
A novel of initiation and formation, Demian is one of the masterpieces of this literary genre.
How can a man escape the world of mirrors and manage to be himself? Demian (a name close to the Greek daimon, the inner voice) teaches young Emil Sinclair not to follow his parents' example, to rebel in order to find himself, to pass through chaos in order to earn the fulfilment of his own destiny. At the end of this path, where the divine and the demonic intermingle, the fear of being an exile, a separated being, a stranger, is annihilated.
There is no measure of the human other than freedom.
